“The drummer boy of Shiloh”
The story the drummer boy of Shiloh is about a boy named Joby.
Joby is a 14 year old boy who is a drummer boy in the war. In the story joby
starts to cry because he is scared of what is to come later on in the day. A
bloody battle will take place soon and thousands of people will die. Joby is
upset because he is just a drummer boy and can’t do anything to help. He feels
that he isn’t important and he is not needed. As Joby sits there and cries the
general approaches him. The general and Joby start talking and the general is
able to make Joby feel better about him.
When the general and joby were
talking to the general says something really meaningful to joby that makes him
feel important. The general calls joby the heart of the army. This made Joby
feel like he was needed. Joby just thought that he was just drummer boy nothing
more. When the general who is a very important role model tells Joby that he is
the heart of the army, it gave him confidence. It told him the he was more than
just the drummer boy. It told him that he was part of the army. That he was there fro a reason and not just to
play a drum.
When Joby was talking to the general
and after the he finishes talking to the general I would like to know what joby
was thinking and what it would feel like to be in Joby’s place. I want to know
how he felt when the general came up to him.
What was going on in his head when the general starting speaking to him
not as a soldier but as a drummer boy. Also how did Joby even get to were he was?
How did he even become a drummer in the war? If he was picked to be a drummer boy
how did he feel when he found out he was picked? Did he ever think that the
general would ever talk to him and call him the heart of the army?
MY opinion on all of this that Joby
should of never had doubted him self. He shouldn’t have felt less important
then everyone else. I know its hard being in a war and all your doing to help
is playing a drum. But everyone has a purpose. Everyone has a reason to be
where they are at. Joby’s purpose may not have been the best but it was still a
purpose and he still had a job to do.
Will, try to use quotes!
